978 Bridging – Charity/Impact

978 Bridging is determined to not only give back to the communities it operates within but also to support worthy causes on an international level. We do this by arranging company charity events supporting local causes and through our partnership with B1G1 allowing us to give globally. Charity has always been close to our Managing Director Simon’s heart, he started doing youth work when he was just 16 for North Yorkshire County Council before working for a youth centre in Stockton-on-Tees.

After moving to Lancashire, he integrated into the community by helping with restoration of The Winter Gardens Theatre on Morecambe Promenade and also helped to organise the ‘World’s Biggest Street Party’ on the sea front. Following this, he volunteered with Leeds Children’s Charity for two seasons at their holiday centre in Grange Over Sands.

Making a lasting impact in the local area…

In order for Simon to become more involved with his community and to make a lasting impact, he took on the role of Chair for the ‘West End Million’ project for three years. The ‘West End Million’ is a national lottery funded initiative designed to support 150 of the most impoverished areas in the country. Simon helped to form the residents steering committee, create a plan and deliver the initial phases of the 10-year project.

He wants to bring this charitable mindset into 978 Bridging by offering a paid voluntary work scheme and partnering with B1G1 – Business for Good in order to give back to his employees chosen causes as the business profits and completing regular charity events in order to raise money for local organisations.

Launch of the B1G1 Platform

Having recently partnered with B1G1, each member of the team chose a cause that they would like to sponsor 978 times, see what we did there?!

Simon our Managing Director has chosen to give Medical Support for a Day to children in India. This covers a child’s medical expenses for a day (inclusive of medical check-up, treatment, and follow up). This donation will be for 978 children.

Nikki our Operations Manager has chosen to give a Bicycle to Promote Education to children in Cambodia. This will provide a bicycle to a disadvantaged student as a means of transportation to address sustainable education.

Without transportation, students often drop out of school between primary and secondary school levels because schools are too far from home. This donation will be for 978 bicycles for 978 children.

Hammad our Case Manager has chosen to give Clean Water to a School in Zambia.

This will provide borehole and hand pump for vulnerable children and orphans at a school of 1000 pupils in rural Zambia, bringing clean water and good sanitation practices to improve health and well-being, and benefitting the wider community of over 4000 people. This donation will be for 978 days of clean water.

Every single transaction made between you and 978 Bridging results in more support for global charities.

Charity Skydive 2020

Our company sky dive has been booked for 12th April 2020 and will support local charities.

Simon has chosen to raise funds for More Music a charity close to his heart. A few weeks after moving to Morecambe in October 2011 he and his wife Liz heard a rumbling outside. They thought it was people dragging their dust bins out, but it was lasting forever. When they went to the door it got louder so they put a coat on and followed the noise.

A few streets away they were greeted by the Christmas lantern parade with hundreds of young people and adults carrying lanterns to a drum ensemble. Simon already knew he’d moved to a wonderful community, but it is moments like this that truly made him feel at home. More Music has been running from one of the more deprived areas of Morecambe for over 25 years and is on a mission to ‘build confidence and spirit in individuals and communities through creative arts activities, particularly music’.

Nikki has chosen to raise funds for Team Reece – Children’s Brain Tumour and Cancer Charity. Reece is a 13yr old boy from Morecambe who fought terminal Brain Cancer and is the inspiration and founder of Team Reece. This charity is close to Nikki’s heart as Reece’s father is good friends with her husband.

It is a venue that holds community meetings, education and a range of facilities for recreation and leisure for residents of all ages. Based in Ingol and Tanterton where Hammad grew up as a child and has recently moved back to, he holds the community very close to his heart. Hammad feels that the charity has done some fantastic things for the area which has helped people change their lives.
